Long time, no see. Sorry.

Here is a photo from December, 2009 from Kuta Beach in Bali, Indonesia. Dramatic sunsets indeed.

For some reason, always when I see this photo there is one Finnish pop song in my mind. The lyrics go translated about like this: “Tonight one of us will run away to Heaven”. We had a nice road trip driving around the Northern Californian highways with some friends in January 2005. This photo is taken somewhere near Napa Valley I think. Paivi, do you remember better?

Gong Xi Fa Cai, or Happy Chinese New Year! Celebrations started with Dragon and Lion dances in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysian Borneo in January 2009. Have a good year of Ox!

A lone rose was only left of a crowd of tens of thousands. It was floating in a fountain in front of the St. Peter’s after Pope’s speech on a sunny Sunday morning in April 2008.

Some village in the Thar desert, near Pakistani border in Rajastan, India, around Valentine’s Day 2003. I have only one adjective to describe these children: fluffy. Though my hair looked almost the same after one week on camel back.

Plain of Jars in Laos in March 2003. I love this photo because it looks like those old newspaper photographs. For my older colleagues even the name always brings in mind only one headline: Heavy fighting in the Plain of Jars… Some of the jars are still inside of bomb craters. War of Indochine was heavy in this area.

In March 2002, this couple with their traditional cone hats offered backpackers a boat trip with their rounded bottom boat which seemed really unstable. It puzzled me how it was possible even to paddle around with that thing. These round boats or basket boats are native in Central Vietnam fishing villages, especially used on swallow waters, and nowadays a tourist sight, like everything “ethnical” in that country.

In my childhood, I remember the news about Vietnamese boat people. They were, obviously refugees of the war, but also some tribal people living in their boats on the Vietnamese coastline trying to flee the persecution of the communist government. There is still people, especially Hmong tribe, living in their boats.
